What To Do

The Capital City is known for its historic roots as well as celebratory parades, both of which you can partake in this month! Check out the best things to do in March below.

Santa Maria Replica – Visit a replica of one of the most famous ships mankind has known! Santa Maria, Christopher Columbus’ flagship, participated in the discovery of America on October 12, 1492! You can tour the replica at the USS Kidd until March 5.

Wearin’ of the Green Parade and 5K – Baton Rouge is known to celebrate everything, and St. Paddy’s Day is no exception! Join us for the 34th Wearin’ of the Green Parade on Saturday, March 16 at 10am – there will also be a Shamrock Run 5K before the parade rolls at 8am.

Rock N Rowe ReturnsDust off those lawn chairs and grab your dancing shoes, because Rock N Rowe is returning to Perkins Rowe from March 14 thru May 9! All concerts are from 6:00 – 9:00pm and are free and open to the public.

Zapps International Beer FestThe 15th annual Zapp’s International Beerfest will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 3:30 until 6:00 pm.  More than 200 foreign and domestic beers, ales and homebrews will be made available for tasting during this popular annual event benefiting the LSU Rural Life Museum.

Where To Go

BREC parks are the only place you need to be this month! From horseback riding to kayaking, there’s so much to explore at each park in our Sweet Baton Rouge.

BREC’s Greenwood Community Park – Splish and splash over to this BREC park for some water fun this spring! You can kayak, canoe, paddleboard or just hop over to the splash pad! Join them on March 27 for a beginner kayak class!  

BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center – Rocks, crystals, and gemstones, oh my! If you like nature’s earthly treasures, this event will rock your world! Join us to explore the world of rocks, minerals, gemstones and fossils on March 9!

BREC’s Highland Park Observatory – Head over to the observatory each Friday in March for a stellar lecture series! Originating years ago as a weekly outdoor presentation, the program provides free, entertaining and intelligent science talks to the citizens of the Baton Rouge area.

BREC’s Farr Park Equestrian Center – Enjoy horseback trail rides on March 2 and March 16 at Farr Park Equestrian Center! It’s a perfect adventure for the whole family. Reservations are by appointment only, so book yours today!

What To Eat

With Carnival coming to a close, tis the season for seafood and crawfish boils! We’re showcasing our favorite places to eat during the Lenten season!

Sammy’s Grill – We all know Sammy’s crawfish with a craft beer is finger-licking good… literally! Grab a tray of Baton Rouge’s best and invite the whole family out to dinner!

Lakeside Daiquiris – Looking for crawfish on-the-geaux? Lakeside Daiquiris is our go-to choice! What better way to enjoy a perfectly seasoned boil than with a selection of frozen drinks?

Parrain’s Seafood – Whether you’re looking for some fried catfish or want to try this Pesto Encrusted Drum topped with Jumbo Shrimp, Parrain’s has you and your taste buds covered this Lenten season!

Acme Oyster House – Oh shucks, need a place for the whole family? Acme Oyster house is the place to be! From chargrilled to raw oysters and shrimp poboys to seafood gumbo, they have an array of options to keep everyone in your party satisfied!

Don’t Stop Just Geaux with Rockin’ Releves – We teamed up with Body Sculpt Barre Studio to bring you Don’t Stop Just Geaux with Rockin Relevés In the Rowe. This event will be a FREE community class with a live DJ on March 9th from 10-12 at Perkins Rowe!

Don’t Stop Just Geaux Challenge – We’re kicking off our FIRST ever #DontStopJustGeaux Challenge on March 11 thru March 31! We will be sharing easy ways to move your body for at least 10 minutes each day by focusing on different muscle groups, exercises you can do at home, and more!
